Declutter Your Space

This seems like a no-brainer. But as used power bar wrappers, coffee mugs and pile up on your desk throughout the day and the number of sticky notes attached to your computer seems to multiply, pause for a moment to take stock of your surroundings. When you arrive in the morning, before you do anything else, take a few moments to clear your space and remove anything that isn’t absolutely essential for the completion of your daily tasks.

Clutter free environments allow you to think more clearly, and produce better results. Not to mention, clearing your space will decrease the amount of time you spend searching for items.

Do the Hardest Task First

There’s always that one task that you’ve been putting off because it just seems too daunting to tackle. But productive people know that getting that difficult task out of the way first, while it might seem unpleasant, is the best option for a successful work day. Doing the hardest thing first frees up the mental energy you would have spent worrying about that monumental undertaking to use on other, less thought intensive tasks. And, since you haven’t waited until the last minute, you can be more confident that you did it well.

Listen to Music

Not everyone in the office is fortunate enough to have a door they can close when they don’t wish to be disturbed. As such, wearing headphones can be a subtle signal to coworkers that you’re in the “zone,” freeing you from distractions that might interrupt your workflow and decrease your productivity.
