Productivity is the holy grail of a successful business. When you’re productive, you can accomplish tasks more quickly and efficiently, satisfy more customers, and ultimately increase your revenue, as well as the time you have available to spend on activities outside of work. But if you’ve ever worked in an office, you know that being productive for a full, eight hour working day is no easy task.
Here, we provide a few tips to help you keep your eye on the ball so you can keep your business growing.
Leave the Office for Lunch
This doesn’t mean you need to go out to eat every day, but just leaving the office with your sack lunch in hand can have a powerful positive effect on the rest of your day. Leaving your desk can help ease stress levels, and if you’re able to socialize with coworkers during your lunch break, all the better. Sometimes a bit of banter can help clear the head, freeing up space for creative thinking later in the afternoon.
Take a Walk
Not only is a walk a great way to break up your day, the physical activity is good for your bodily and mental health. Physical exercise has been shown to improve your ability to concentrate and focus. Having trouble fixing the bug in your most recent computer script? Not sure how to end that important email to your VP? Take a walk.
Declutter Your Space
This seems like a no-brainer. But as used power bar wrappers, coffee mugs and pile up on your desk throughout the day and the number of sticky notes attached to your computer seems to multiply, pause for a moment to take stock of your surroundings. When you arrive in the morning, before you do anything else, take a few moments to clear your space and remove anything that isn’t absolutely essential for the completion of your daily tasks.
Clutter free environments allow you to think more clearly, and produce better results. Not to mention, clearing your space will decrease the amount of time you spend searching for items.
Do the Hardest Task First
There’s always that one task that you’ve been putting off because it just seems too daunting to tackle. But productive people know that getting that difficult task out of the way first, while it might seem unpleasant, is the best option for a successful work day. Doing the hardest thing first frees up the mental energy you would have spent worrying about that monumental undertaking to use on other, less thought intensive tasks. And, since you haven’t waited until the last minute, you can be more confident that you did it well.
Listen to Music
Not everyone in the office is fortunate enough to have a door they can close when they don’t wish to be disturbed. As such, wearing headphones can be a subtle signal to coworkers that you’re in the “zone,” freeing you from distractions that might interrupt your workflow and decrease your productivity.
As you may have noticed, the space in which you work can have a significant impact on the productivity of you and your employees. If you’re looking for the ideal office space to help your team be more productive, our team at Emerge212 can help. Contact us today
